Welcome to Starting Somewhere — a writing venture I am beyond excited about finally starting. See what I did there?
I’m Isabel Sofia — a mother, writer, artist, singer, wannabe flower farmer, among many other creative things that hold a special place in my heart. Mostly, I am a human being who truly just wants to do it all and write about it along the way. Who wants to travel and get the most out of this one, precious life I have been gifted. Before I created this Substack, I was feeling the pull to move my writing elsewhere, besides social media, where I had been opening myself up vulnerably for years. I found myself craving and seeking more. Knowing that I needed to take my writing more seriously, I finally decided I was ready to create a space like this.
I have been writing since my fingers could; for as long as I can remember. There are countless journals filled with my every thought since I was a young child. On rainy days, I would spend my time writing stories from my imagination. Short stories of fantastical creatures and people living bravely. Then I started writing about my own life as a means of processing what I was going through. Writing was a form of escapism, meditation, healing and so much more for me. I love to write more than I love to do a lot of things, and I journal daily as a self-care practice. For years, I wrote whatever came to me and spilled it out into Instagram captions. Recently I realized that I want to focus more on writing specifically and who I am as a writer. I also want to have the freedom to share more long form writing pieces, so that is why I’m here! I’m glad you’re here, too. I can tell this is going to be fun.
Here, you will find musings from my heart, music I’m loving, poetry I’ve written, advice I should probably take myself and just so much more. Whatever flows, really. I’m ready to put my heart into this and give more to myself, and all of you.
